KCCI's masterplan for Mangalore

Mangalore: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has sought a comprehensive master plan for Mangalore, keeping in mind the growth potential for the next four or five decades.

Mr Srinivas S. Kamath, President of KCCI, who submitted a memorandum to the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) here on Thursday, said that professional town planners with no vested interests need to look at the master plan in toto and draw up documents considering the growth potential of the city for the next four or five decades.

The memorandum stated that the one that is published is not sufficient as a document – in terms of ideas, statistics and presentation – to showcase it to overseas business leaders.

The preservation of the uniqueness of the topography of Mangalore is at stake due to rapid industrialisation.

The Geological Survey of India could be consulted on preservation of the landmarks in the city, it said.

The city of Mangalore has good potential for the promotion of coastal and riverfront tourism. Considering this, the master plan should have some areas marked for tourism promotion.

The MUDA, which will submit the ‘Comprehensive Development Plan-2021’ to the State Government for its approval, could consider these suggestions, the memorandum said.
