"ARAI to unveil new hydrogen IC engine development hub in India."
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) will establish a hydrogen internal combustion (IC) engine development facility in India within the next year, its Director, Dr. Reji Mathai, said.
Dr. Mathai was speaking at a press conference held ahead of the Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT 2026), which will be organised by ARAI from January 27 to January 30, 2026.
He said the automotive sector is witnessing the rapid emergence of new technologies and that ARAI has initiated research across multiple areas to keep pace with future industry requirements. Highlighting road safety as a growing concern, Dr. Mathai noted that the number of road accidents in the country has increased significantly.
“Vehicle safety has become a critical issue. ARAI is placing greater emphasis on research and on providing effective solutions to ensure that newly launched vehicles are safer and equipped with the necessary technologies,” he said.
The upcoming SIAT 2026 will focus on technological advancements shaping the future of mobility, including alternative fuels, vehicle safety, and sustainable automotive solutions.
