Colombo: The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced the electricity generation of the newly constructed 300 megawatt Kerawalapitiya thermal power plant will commence on November 30.

The power house will begin to generate 200 megawatts this year and will expand to 300 megawatts within a year.

The price of an electric unit generated in Kerawalapitiya plant is estimated at 20 rupees. Sri Lanka's electricity demand is growing by 8% annually and the CEB decided to construct the Kerawalapitiya plant to tally with the demand.
