KMRL to Conduct Feasibility Study for Metro Line to Ayyampuzha.

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has officially confirmed that it will conduct a feasibility study on extending its proposed airport metro line to Ayyampuzha, the site of the planned Global City project. The study is included in the request for proposal (RFP) for Phase III of the metro expansion.

While there had been speculation about the extension, this marks the first official acknowledgment by KMRL. The Global City project is a key component of the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (KBIC), designed to boost economic and industrial development in the region.

The KBIC recently saw progress with the approval of an Industrial Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Palakkad by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The second major node, Global City in Ayyampuzha, is nearing the final stage of land acquisition. The project aims to host IT firms, financial institutions, electronic industries, schools, hospitals, and office complexes.

Unlike a conventional manufacturing hub, authorities envision Global City as a multi-faceted development with significant tourism potential, leveraging Ayyampuzha’s natural appeal. The proposed metro extension is expected to enhance connectivity, making the area more attractive to investors and facilitating its transformation into a major economic and tourism hub.
