Kochi Metro Wins Contract to Shape Mumbai's Water Metro Project.

The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has won a significant contract to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Mumbai's proposed Water Metro project. The project is modeled after Kochi’s successful water-based public transport system.

The consultancy assignment, valued at ₹4.4 crore, was awarded by the Maharashtra government following a competitive tender process.

With this new contract, KMRL has entered the league of national-level consultants, a role previously pioneered by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in the metro rail sector.

The DPR will be based on a previous feasibility study conducted by KMRL’s consultancy wing. That study explored water metro connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, envisioning a network that would connect key water bodies like Vaitarna, Vasai, Manori, Thane, Panvel, and Karanja to provide extensive commuter links for India’s financial capital.
