Kochi to seek State's intervention for completion of projects.
Kochi Corporation will seek the intervention of the State government for the widening of Thammanam-Pullepady Road and the reconstruction of South Rail Overbridge and the culvert at Kaloor near PVS Hospital.
Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany announced the decision at the council meeting while replying to the debate on recently.
The council also requested the Kerala Road Fund Board to develop the 17 roads selected under its City Road Improvement Programme.
Councillors criticised the authorities for failing to take steps for mitigating the inconveniences caused to the public during the construction of Metro Rail.
The corporation was not consulted while important decisions on regulation of city traffic were taken. The police and the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) were taking unilateral decisions on traffic diversions and rerouting of vehicular movements, criticised councillors.
The council will ask the State government to overhaul the city traffic system in the wake of the Metro works. It will also submit a proposal to the government for improving the transport facilities. The KMRL would be asked to repair the drains that had been damaged near Metro sites, Mr. Chammany informed the council.
