Land Acquisition Process Begins for Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Phase III.

The Karnataka government has initiated the land acquisition process for the first stage of the Namma Metro Phase III project, with a preliminary notification issued recently. The state will acquire 26,811 square meters of land to build an elevated metro line and stations between JP Nagar 4th Phase and Mysuru Road Station. The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) will handle the acquisition on behalf of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which is overseeing the project.

The acquisition will involve 197 private properties, including vacant sites, residential buildings, and temporary structures. Additionally, 10,892 square meters of government-owned land, including properties from BBMP, BDA, and BMTC, will also be required for the project.

In August, the central government approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Namma Metro Phase III, which includes two elevated corridors. One corridor will stretch 32.2 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura, and the other will be 12.5 km from Kadabagere to Hosahalli. The JP Nagar 4th Phase to Mysuru Road section is part of the corridor that ends at Kempapura.

BMRCL is currently conducting a geotechnical survey along the Outer Ring Road, a necessary step before civil construction can begin. A senior official from BMRCL stated, "The viaduct will be placed on the median of the ORR, with the majority of land required for metro stations. Any objections will be reviewed by the concerned authorities, and land and structural evaluations will continue. The compensation package will be finalized at a later stage."
