Lanka: PCH ties up with Reliance

Colombo: India's Reliance Communications has joined with Sri Lanka's PC House (PCH) and its subsidiary Greenwich Lanka to maintain and develop off-shore internet data centres (IDCs). Reliance hopes to use the island as a hub for its marketing activities and as an overseas development center, the companies said in a statement.

The IDC is a facility that is used to house computer systems and associated components such as telecommunication and storage systems.

IDC services include backup power, redundant data communication connections, environmental controls and special security devices, the statement said.
The Reliance IDC system has application services such as managed hosting, co-location, disaster recovery, business continuity, security, storage, content management and professional support.

The services are designed and scaled according to the needs of individuals and organizations, the statement said.

The IDC system can also withstand natural disasters and power failures since it has an inbuilt backup system and a power supply unit.

'It can work especially well for banks because of the confidentiality as it has several layers of back up and security features,' said S H M Rishan, chairman of PCH, which is known for its personal computer brand Panora.

Reliance Communications, one of India's top three business houses, is owned and managed by the Ambani Group.

It currently has over 48 million subscribers in India with over seven years experience in building and maintaining internet data centers.

The company’s clientele includes banks, travel, insurance, financial services, health care and telecommunications sectors.
