'Light rail to connect Hinjewadi, Talawade'.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said the state government was contemplating Light Rail Transit (LRT) system connecting Hinjewadi IT Park and Talawade MIDC Technology Park to resolve traffic problems faced by professionals.

Speaking after inaugurating Mahatma Phule Cultural Hall in Wanowrie, Chavan said the government was keen to resolve traffic issues in the city and LRT was part of the solution to mitigate such problems. Talking to reporters at Talawade MIDC later, Chavan said, 'The proposal for light rail system is in its initial stage and the state government is checking the feasibility of the project. We are willing to take forward this project. The government is not considering metro rail on this line because of technical problems.'

He stressed on the Pune metro plan, which has so far failed to take off. 'Considering the traffic problems in Pune city, the state and the Centre has approved metro project and the work on actual implementation will start,' he said, adding that the state government will make all efforts to facilitate work on ring road.
