On Thursday, the iconic British automotive brand, Lotus Cars, marked its debut in the Indian market, citing the opportune moment to introduce luxury vehicles amidst a burgeoning demand and government support for infrastructure development.
The company unveiled three variants of its highly anticipated Eletre electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) – Lotus Eletre, Eletre S, and Eletre R, with prices set at ₹2.55 crore, ₹2.75 crore, and ₹2.99 crore, respectively (all ex-showroom pan-India).
The Eletre and Eletre S models boast a powerful 450-kW/603-hp single-speed version, offering an impressive maximum range of 600 km. Meanwhile, the flagship Eletre R features a robust 675-kW/905-hp dual-speed system with a maximum range of 490 km. Torque figures for the models stand at 710 Nm and 985 Nm, respectively, delivering swift acceleration from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in either 4.5 or 2.95 seconds. The 112-kWh battery shared by both versions boasts a rapid charging time (10-80 per cent) of just 20 minutes, according to the company.
Dominic Baumgart, Head of Aftersales - Asia Pacific, West Asia, Africa, and India at Lotus Cars, expressed confidence in the strategic timing of the Lotus Eletre launch in India. "We have carefully assessed the market, infrastructure in India, and spent time sourcing the right partner... we are sure to propel the brand and sell our vehicles here," Baumgart stated on the sidelines of the launch event.
