L&T Kattupalli port handles first sea to sea transhipment containers.
It is reported that L&T Kattupalli port on October 10th handled its first ever sea-to-sea transhipment containers, i.e. containers offloaded at Kattupalli port were transhipped to APM Terminal Chennai CFS.
Senior management from Kattupalli port thanked Chennai Customs for implementing the sea-to-sea transhipment module via Public Notice 04/2014. This trade facilitation measure will help importers.
M/v Iwashiro, which sailed on October 9th, had offloaded the transhipment boxes at 2300 hours. Containers started to gate out the very next day from 0500 hours.
A senior official of the port said that 'A similar module for exports from CFS has been initiated by Customs and is expected in the near future.'
Kattupalli port currently handles exports from ICDs, SEZs and factory-stuffed containers. To promote exports, it is offering seal verification of containers free of charge.
