"L&T to Build India’s Largest Pumped Storage Plant: Secures 3,000 MW Mega-Order in Raigad."
The heavy civil infrastructure business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a large order from Torrent Energy Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd for the construction of India’s largest pumped storage project, the 3,000-MW Saidongar-1 Pumped Storage Project, in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The project, earlier awarded under the name Torrent PSH 3 Pvt Ltd, will comprise 10 generating units of 300 MW each.
Under the contract, L&T will undertake the design, engineering and execution of all civil and hydro-mechanical works associated with the project. The company said the project is expected to play a significant role in improving grid reliability and strengthening energy security for Maharashtra and other regions.
L&T said the order highlights its capability in executing complex hydroelectric and pumped storage projects of national importance, backed by its track record in engineering, timely delivery and safety standards.
Pumped storage projects such as Saidongar-1 are critical for grid stability and meeting peak power demand, as they store surplus electricity during periods of low demand and release it during peak hours. Such projects are also seen as key to supporting India’s long-term decarbonisation and energy transition goals.
