"L&T’s heavy civil infrastructure arm has secured a significant turnkey order for the Red Line extension of the Riyadh Metro, with a project value estimated up to ₹10,000 crore."
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) recently said its Heavy Civil Infrastructure business has secured a major contract from the Royal Commission of Riyadh City for works related to the extension of the Riyadh Metro network in Saudi Arabia.
As per the company’s internal order-book classification, a ‘major’ order is one with a contract value in the range of ₹5,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore.
The order is part of an ultra-mega project awarded to a consortium comprising Webuild S.p.A., L&T, Nesma & Partners Contracting, Alstom and IDOM. Under the contract, L&T will be responsible for executing works for the extension of the Red Line of the Riyadh Metro.
The scope of work includes the design and turnkey construction of an 8.4-kilometre metro corridor, comprising a mix of elevated and underground sections, along with five stations.
The Riyadh Metro is among the largest urban transit projects in the world and is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 programme aimed at expanding public transportation infrastructure and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
L&T said the latest order further strengthens its credentials in delivering complex mass rapid transit projects across international markets. The company has previously executed metro rail projects in India and overseas, covering underground tunnelling, elevated viaducts, stations and systems integration.
