Madurai Launches Moringa Export Hub as Tamil Nadu Targets ₹1,000-Crore Market.

The Tamil Nadu government has inaugurated a Moringa Export Facilitation Centre in Madurai, marking a major step towards enhancing the State’s presence in the global moringa (drumstick) market, valued at ₹1,000 crore.

India currently supplies 80% of the world’s moringa demand, with Tamil Nadu leading the charge. As per 2023–24 data from the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops, the State cultivates moringa across 20,741 hectares, producing 841,807 tonnes annually.

To unlock the crop’s export potential, Tamil Nadu launched a dedicated Moringa Export Zone under the 2021–22 Agricultural Budget. Spanning nine districts, the initiative includes the newly opened Moringa Special Export Service Centre in Madurai, operated by the Tamil Nadu Food Processing and Agricultural Export Development Corporation (TNAPEx).
