Maha Metro Speeds Up Construction of Khadki Station, Swargate Underpass Ahead of Monsoon.

With the monsoon season approaching, Maha Metro is accelerating construction work on key infrastructure projects in Pune, including Khadki station and the underpass at Swargate Chowk. The metro authority is also aiming to open the cable-stayed foot-over-bridge at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden station soon to help ease road congestion across the city.

Maha Metro officials have confirmed that works at all three locations have been fast-tracked, with approximately one month remaining to complete the pending tasks before the onset of the rains. The completion of these facilities will allow for the removal of barricades, thereby clearing road space for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Among the remaining tasks, the construction of the underpass at Swargate Chowk is considered the most critical. The ongoing work has necessitated the blocking of portions of the main road and areas within the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus terminus. The underpass is designed to provide a crucial link between the Metro station and the MSRTC bus terminus, situated across the busy Swargate Chowk.

Officials stated that the tunneling work for the underpass is complete, and work on the entry and exit points is currently underway. One end of the underpass will connect to the front side of the MSRTC terminus on the Satara Road end.

However, commuters have expressed frustration over the delay in opening the underpass. "The Swargate Metro station was commissioned in October 2024. Why was the underpass not ready before the station was opened for commuters?" questioned Abhishek Satav, a regular Metro user from Swargate.

In response to the situation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reportedly instructed Maha Metro to ensure the Swargate underpass work is completed before the monsoon arrives. PMC officials stated they would conduct inspections to monitor and push the progress of the Metro works at Swargate.
