MahaMetro Nagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TS Switch E-Ride Private Limited to launch an innovative app-based e-scooter sharing service aimed at improving urban mobility and last-mile connectivity.
The new e-scooter service will allow users to easily book, track, and pay for rides through a smartphone application. The app will also provide real-time updates on scooter availability, routes, and costs, ensuring a seamless experience. Dedicated parking spaces for e-scooters will be strategically placed near Metro stations for commuter convenience.
MahaMetro officials emphasized the focus on safety, with regular e-scooter maintenance and strict adherence to government regulations. All staff involved in the service will undergo police verification to enhance security.
This new offering aims to provide commuters with flexible, affordable travel options to destinations not directly connected by the Metro system. The service will be integrated with mobile wallets and include real-time tracking features, enhancing the ease and convenience of use.
MahaMetro is working with local authorities to expand the network of docking stations, ensuring the service covers more areas of the city. The e-scooter service will operate in alignment with Metro train schedules, running 15 minutes before the first train and 15 minutes after the last.
A MahaMetro official stated, "This initiative is designed to enhance first- and last-mile connectivity, providing an eco-friendly and cost-effective transport option for Metro users. It will improve accessibility and contribute to a greener urban environment."
The service is part of MahaMetro’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable transportation solutions. The introduction of electric scooters is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions in Nagpur. The project is also expected to increase Metro ridership while setting a new standard for sustainable urban transport in the city.|
