Maharashtra and Rajasthan Lead in New Public Infrastructure Projects in FY26.
Western Indian states, led by Maharashtra and Rajasthan, have recorded the highest approvals in public infrastructure projects in the first half of FY26, according to a BusinessLine analysis of MoSPI’s PAIMANA database.
The analysis shows that large-scale metro, port, and industrial projects drove a 25% year-on-year increase in total project value, even as the number of new projects declined by 17%. The data suggests a growing focus on high-value, capital-intensive projects with broader economic impact.
Maharashtra emerged as the frontrunner, with major initiatives including the ₹12,200 crore Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail project, aimed at easing urban congestion and improving intra-city mobility, and the ₹6,000 crore Rewas Port project, expected to boost connectivity along the western coastline.
