Maharashtra Launches 1,000 Projects to Boost Urban Climate Resilience Across 44 Cities

The Department of Environment and Climate Change recently announced a pipeline of over 1,000 urban climate action projects across 44 AMRUT Cities, signaling a significant push to expand climate-resilient development across the state.

The announcement was made during Mumbai Climate Week, held in partnership with WRI India. The projects were developed under the Climate Forward Maharashtra initiative and are anchored in the City Climate Action Accelerator launched in 2023.

At the event, the state government also introduced the Climate Finance Access and Mobilisation Strategy (CFAMS), aimed at mobilising large-scale capital to support Maharashtra’s transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy. The strategy aligns with the state’s broader goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by FY28.
