Maharashtra Steps Up EV Charging Push with Stations at MSRTC Depots, RTOs.

The Maharashtra government is planning to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) depots and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the state, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said recently.

Speaking at an event to flag off Tata Motors’ electric trucks at the Tardeo RTO office in central Mumbai, Sarnaik said the government is also exploring the possibility of installing EV charging stations at flyovers across Maharashtra under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The minister proposed that flyovers managed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) could be made available to MSRTC or the RTO department for developing charging infrastructure.

“Flyovers of MMRDA, MSRDC or PWD should be given to MSRTC or the RTO department so that we can set up charging stations on a PPP basis at these locations,” Sarnaik said.

The proposed expansion is aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s EV charging infrastructure and supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles across the state.
