Mahindra & Mahindra Unveils Advanced Battery Assembly Facility for Born-Electric Vehicles.
Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has inaugurated a state-of-the-art battery assembly facility dedicated to its born-electric vehicles (BEVs) at its Chakan manufacturing plant. Spread across 2.83 km, the plant integrates cutting-edge automation and IoT technology to ensure efficient and sustainable operations.
Mahindra has allocated ₹4,500 crore from its ₹16,000 crore investment plan for FY22 to FY27 to support manufacturing capacity, powertrain development, and product innovation, including software and technology.
The company has launched its born-electric BE 6 and XEV 9e vehicles, priced at ₹26.9 lakh and ₹30.50 lakh, respectively. In the first phase, Mahindra plans to manufacture 5,000 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e per month.
The Chakan facility features 500 robots and fully automated transfer systems in the body shop. It is equipped with an IoT-based “Nerve Center” for real-time process monitoring and end-to-end traceability. According to the company, the plant leverages advanced manufacturing processes developed indigenously to produce high-performance, long-lasting batteries using Industry 4.0 technology. The facility also targets a 25% gender diversity ratio.
Test drives for the BEVs will commence across India on January 14, with deliveries of vehicles equipped with the 79kWh battery pack expected to begin in March.
To make the BEVs more accessible, Mahindra has introduced a “Three-for-Me” financing program. Under this scheme, EMIs will start at ₹39,224 for the BE 6 and ₹45,450 for the XEV 9e, based on different battery pack configurations.
With this new facility, Mahindra & Mahindra strengthens its position in the electric vehicle market, aligning with its vision for sustainable and innovative mobility solutions.
