"Major Infrastructure Push: Tamil Nadu CM Launches ₹2,293 Crore Desalination Project in Thoothukudi."
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently laid the foundation stone for a 60 million litres per day (MLD) desalination plant at Thoothukudi. The project will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) hybrid annuity model at an estimated cost of ₹2,293 crore.
According to an official release, the project is expected to significantly improve water availability for industries located in the SIPCOT industrial complex, easing water usage constraints and supporting industrial growth in the region.
The contract for the project was awarded by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) to a consortium led by Chennai-based Vishnusurya Projects and Infra Ltd, along with JWIL Infra Ltd and IDE Technologies India Pvt Ltd.
