Make-in-India: Pawan Hans to Deploy Dhruv NG Helicopters for ONGC in ₹2,000-Cr Deal.
India’s state-owned helicopter services provider, Pawan Hans Limited (PHL), has secured a ₹2,000 crore global contract from national energy explorer ONGC for offshore operations. The contract, valued at ₹2,141 crore, will span ten years and includes the deployment of four ‘Make-in-India’ Dhruv NG helicopters.
This contract marks a significant milestone for both Pawan Hans and the indigenous Dhruv NG helicopter, which is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The Dhruv NG is an advanced version of the ‘Advance Light Helicopter ALH Mk III’ used by the Indian Armed Forces, and this marks the first time the civilian version will be deployed for offshore operations.
The Dhruv NG features world-class specifications, including the ‘Shakti’ engines and a civil-certified glass cockpit, and it is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing India’s capability to produce, certify, and operate world-class, fully indigenous helicopters. This contract also provides a boost to Indian MSMEs and vendors involved in the production of this platform.
This collaboration further strengthens Pawan Hans' position in the offshore services sector. The company currently operates a fleet of 46 helicopters, providing services across multiple sectors, including oil and gas exploration, VIP transport, and law enforcement. Pawan Hans has been a key player in providing helicopter services to ONGC, British Gas, and other clients in the offshore industry.
PHL’s commitment to modernization is reflected in its plan to replace 17 older helicopters, with financial support from the central government for fleet expansion. The Dhruv NG is being hailed as a reliable and cost-effective solution for the company’s future operations.
