Mannargudi to get 22-km ring road.

A ring road will be laid for 22 km around Mannargudi. The road will connect three State Highways apart from a few rural roads in Tiruvarur district.

The formation of the ring road will pave the way for reducing the traffic congestion in Mannargudi in a big way and connection of rural roads with the proposed ring road will go a long way in the transportation of the agricultural produce to the nearby towns with much ease.The ring road will connect Kumbakonam-Mannargudi-Adirampattinam road (State Highways No. 66); Tiruvarur-Mannargudi-Muthupettai Road (SH No. 22); Mannargudi–Sethupavasamuthiram Road (SH No. 46); and other roads including Mannargudi-Tirumakottai-Sokkanavur Road; Mannargudi-Orathanadu-Tiruvonam road and a few rural roads.

The proposed ring road will pass through the revenue villages of Moondramsethi, Bhamini, Aravathur, Ramapuram, Kailasanathar Koil, Nangamsethi, Serankulam, Koppiralayam, Neduvakottai, Kumarapuram, Karikottai, Melavayal, and Moovanallur.

District Collector M. Mathivanan inspected the State Highways that would be connected with the ring road and visited all the villages to gain first hand information on the project.

A new 73-metre long bridge is under construction in Mannargudi town at an outlay of Rs. 2.75 crore.

The work was in progress at present.

The Collector inspected the construction work on this bridge recently.

Villalan, divisional engineer, PWD, explained the salient features of the ring road and on the works of the new bridge to the Collector.
