Maruti Suzuki Inks Memorandum of Agreement with Haryana Government for Establishment of Fourth JIM
Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has officially entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Haryana government to establish the second Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Kansala, Rohtak. This significant move was announced on Friday, marking a strategic collaboration to bolster skill development in the manufacturing sector.
The existing Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Kansala, situated on a sprawling five-acre land, is set to undergo a transformation into a JIM with an infusion of ₹5.8 crore in investment, funded as part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by Maruti Suzuki. The statement released by the company emphasized the commitment to preparing a skilled workforce aligned with the booming Indian passenger vehicle industry, which currently stands as the world's third-largest.
Rahul Bharti, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at MSIL, highlighted the pivotal role of skill development in achieving the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). The JIM at Kansala is designed to simulate a modern production factory environment, ensuring that students are trained on equipment mirroring real-world manufacturing scenarios. The curriculum incorporates Japanese shop floor practices, emphasizing safety, quality, discipline, punctuality, and Kaizen.
Strategically located approximately 16 kilometers from the upcoming automobile hub in Kharkhoda, JIM Kansala is poised to provide students with extensive career opportunities in the ever-evolving automotive industry.
Under the collaboration, the government of Haryana has contributed the land and building for JIM Kansala, while MSIL will take charge of providing equipment, training modules, qualified instructors, and institute management for a duration of 15 years.
The JIM initiative itself is a product of the collaboration between the governments of Japan and India, stemming from a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed in 2016. This MoC, between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan (METI), and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India (MSDE), laid the foundation for the "Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme." The program aims to train 30,000 Indian youths in manufacturing skills over a 10-year period, contributing to the growth of the country's skilled workforce.
