Metro Rail: DMRC to Conduct Study Soon.
Undeterred by the total devastation caused by cyclone Hudhud, Vizag is proceeding apace with the metro rail project. A team from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), led by its principal advisor E Sreedharan, will arrive in the city recently to conduct a feasibility study for the much-awaited Vizag Metro Rail (VMR) project. They will also interact with the officials concerned before submitting a report to the state government in this regard.
The state government had engaged DMRC to conduct a feasibility study on the possibility of implementing metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. E Sreedharan, who was appointed as the principal advisor for metro rail projects, had visited Vijayawada to study the Vijayawada - Guntur - Tenali - Mangalagiri metro rail (VGTMMR) recently and was expected to arrive in the Port city in the first week of October. However, the visit was postponed due to various reasons including the cyclone that ravaged the city on October 12.
The DMRC team, along with the officials of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), will visit the proposed sites to make a preliminary assessment of the project.
