Tiruchi: The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Mr T. R. Baalu, inspected the works on the four-laning of the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway in the district. He directed the officials to complete the part of the NH project between Tiruchi and Tindivanam by December 2008.

The four-laning works to a length of 48 km in this district has been undertaken on an outlay of Rs 315 crore, Mr Baalu told presspersons here. About 54 per cent of the works have been compl eted so far. To ensure free flow of traffic, pedestrian underground sub-ways were being constructed at Valikandapuram and Tozhudur.

New flyovers are coming up at the four-road and three road junctions in Perambalur town. These works were expected to be completed by September next.

Mr Baalu said the National Highways Authority of India will consider the proposal of constructing another sub-way at Vaalikandapuram in deference to the requests by locals.
