Mitsubishi commissions diesel engine plant
Bangalore: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan (MHI) and Bangalore-based VST Tiller Tractors, (VST) have commissioned their first diesel engine manufacturing plant at Metagalli, near Mysore.
The JV, MHI-VST Diesel Engine Pvt Ltd (MVDE), has invested Rs 41.5 crore to set up the new engine plant. Mitsubishi holds 90 per cent in the JV company.
With this, the JV company has joined the big league of high speed compact diesel engine manufacturers in the world and will be the biggest manufacturer in India.
During the past 10 years the production of diesel engines in India has increased dramatically and the demand is growing at a very fast rate. Mitsubishi will steadily expand its capacity in India to serve this rapidly-growing demand, said K Yoshida, executive vice president, MHI.
The new plant has an installed capacity to produce 30,000 diesel engines per annum. The size of the diesel engines to be produced here are in the power range of 9.6 KW to 27.6 KW.
The company is targetting a wide range of customer base, ranging from gensets, agri-machinery, construction machinery and marine applications.
