MMRDA Issues ₹36-Crore Tender to Resume Thakurli Flyover Project After Seven-Year Delay.
The long-delayed Thakurli elevated flyover project in Dombivli, stalled for nearly seven years, is finally set to resume, offering major relief to commuters facing severe traffic congestion. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued a ₹36-crore tender to complete the remaining stretch from Thakurli Railway Phatak to Mahsoba Chowk.
Once finished, the flyover will provide an alternative route connecting Kalyan and Dombivli, allowing faster and less congested travel compared to the current crowded internal roads of Thakurli.
Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, who consistently followed up on the issue with MMRDA, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for ensuring the long-delayed project gets back on track.
Shiv Sena MLA from Kalyan Rural, Rajesh More, along with party workers, celebrated the tender announcement, noting that the completion of the elevated connector will significantly ease traffic for thousands of daily commuters. “The work was stalled for years, but once operational, citizens will experience massive relief,” he said.
To facilitate construction, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has announced compensation for around 60 affected households—a key reason behind the earlier delay.
The MMRDA-built flyover linking Dombivli East and West was completed in 2018; however, the extension toward Thakurli, connecting directly to 90 Feet Road, remained incomplete due to land and compensation issues, which have now been resolved. Construction is expected to restart within one to two months following tender finalization and necessary on-ground approvals.
