Mobis India Limited, a key affiliate of Hyundai Motor India Limited, has officially launched its state-of-the-art EV Battery System Assembly (BSA) plant in Sriperumbudur. The expansive 8.15-acre facility is strategically situated adjacent to Hyundai Motor's existing car manufacturing plant, fostering synergy within the electric vehicle production ecosystem. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, according to a company release.
The newly commissioned plant boasts an initial installed capacity to assemble 36,000 EV battery units annually, a figure strategically aligned to meet the escalating demand for electric vehicles in the Indian market. Demonstrating its future-readiness, the facility's design allows for a swift scalability of production, with the potential to ramp up to an impressive 75,000 units in the near term.
This advanced assembly unit will be dedicated to producing high-performance battery systems specifically designed for electric vehicles manufactured in India. Notably, the Hyundai CRETA Electric will be the first EV model to feature battery packs assembled at this cutting-edge Mobis India facility. This move underscores Mobis India's commitment to supporting Hyundai's strong emphasis on the localization of EV production, signifying a significant stride forward in India's journey towards widespread electric mobility.
