More land for commercial use at Udaipur airport
New Delhi: The area available for commercial operation and maintenance of the airport at Udaipur is set to increase more than three-fold to about 51 acres from the earlier estimate of 14 acres.
Official sources told Business Line that a detailed survey of the airport area showed that an additional 37 acres of land were available that could also be used for commercial exploitation.
The Government has now re-invited Request for Quotation for outsourcing on a long-term basis the maintenance and commercial exploitation of the new terminal buildings at Udaipur airport. Official sources said that the applications received earlier would be considered along with the fresh ones.
Corporate interest
In October last year, when the initial RFQ was invited, at least 10 leading industrial groups, including the GMR group, L&T and the Omaxe group had shown an interest in participating in the project.
The decision to develop Udaipur airport is part of the Government initiative to involve the private sector in upgrading airport infrastructure around the country. The Government plans to develop at least 35 non-metro airports through the public private partnership route in the next few years.
