MoU Signed for Land Acquisition on Seaport-Airport Road Project.

In a key step towards the second phase of the Seaport-Airport Road development, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Armed Depot (NAD) under the defence ministry and the Kerala Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (RBDCK) on Friday for land acquisition.

The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Industries Minister P Rajeeve and NAD Chief General Manager BP Singh. As per the agreement, ₹23.11 crore was handed over to NAD as land compensation.

The 25.7-km-long Seaport-Airport Road project is being executed in two phases. The first phase, covering 11.3 km from Irumbanam to Kalamassery, was completed in 2019. The second phase, extending 14.4 km from Kalamassery HMT Road to the airport, includes the crucial NAD–Mahilalayam stretch.

Following the land acquisition, the road will be widened by 5.5 meters from HMT Junction to Thorappu. A boundary wall will also be built on the transferred land.

Minister Rajeeve stated that, including the cost of acquiring HMT land, the Centre would need to pay ₹64 crore for the project. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the road expansion on time, ensuring progress in Mahilalayam and Chowara regions.

RBDCK Managing Director S Suhas said the construction is expected to be completed within a year, while NAD’s BP Singh assured full cooperation in the project’s development.
