The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has acquired over 400 hectares of private land to expand the Vikram Udyogpuri industrial area in Ujjain with the second phase of development. This strategic move aims to accommodate the growing demand for industrial space and attract new investments to the region.
Currently, the Vikram Udyogpuri industrial area spans 458 hectares and is nearing full capacity. The process of acquiring the new land has already commenced, and a detailed project report is being prepared to kick-start the second phase of development. The industrial area, one of the Madhya Pradesh government's key projects, will be prominently featured to investors at the Investors' Summit 2025 in Bhopal in February.
Rajesh Rathod, Executive Director of MPIDC Ujjain, stated, "We are developing Phase 2 of Vikram Udyogpuri. The existing area is almost fully occupied, and we are receiving numerous investment proposals from various industries. Given the interest from investors, we have decided to proceed with Phase 2."
Since its inception, Vikram Udyogpuri has seen significant industrial growth, with 58 industries having acquired land. Over 15 of these have already entered the trial and production phases. These industries have collectively proposed investments exceeding ₹5,000 crore. MPIDC has received around 200 investment proposals, requesting approximately 121 hectares of space in the area. Notable companies that have secured land include PepsiCo India, Amul, Ashirvad Pipes, Symbiotic Life, Karnataka Antibiotics, Yashoda Linen, and Srinivas Pharma.
In response to the increasing industrial activity, MPIDC is focused on enhancing the infrastructure and amenities in the industrial belt. A major addition has been the installation of a 5.2 MLD common effluent treatment plant (CEPT) at a cost of over ₹24 crore, designed to improve the area's industrial ecosystem. The projected effluent generation from the industries in this zone is expected to be around 3-4 MLD.
