NCC plant.

The Human Rights Forum, one of the organisations that steadfastly opposed establishment of a thermal power plant on the wetlands (beela) near Sompeta, welcomed the AP Cabinet’s decision recently to cancel the GO No. 1107 on handing over the land to NCC.

HRF secretary for AP and Telangana V.S. Krishna while welcoming the cancellation of GO on allotment of land, said the decision should have been taken before July 14, 2010, the day when three innocent farmers were killed in police firing when the local farmers and others agitated against establishment of the power plant on the Beela land on which they were growing three crops a year and deriving other benefits like fishing, etc.

Mr. Krishna also demanded that the government should not hand over the precious wetland to any other activity, but nourish it so that future generations would enjoy the benefits.
