NCR’s Noida International Airport Starts Operations with Aerotropolis Vision.

The National Capital Region (NCR) added its third airport recently with the commencement of domestic commercial operations at the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar.

The Centre has outlined an ambitious vision for the greenfield airport that extends far beyond aviation infrastructure, aiming to develop it as a “true aerotropolis” — a self-sustaining economic ecosystem built around the airport.

The concept envisions industrial and service growth in sectors such as manufacturing, information technology, hospitality, cargo, agriculture and aviation services. Officials said the development is expected to generate large-scale employment and spur economic activity across a wider region extending from western Uttar Pradesh to Agra.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, speaking at the launch of domestic operations, said the airport is intended to evolve into more than just a transport hub.

“It is the vision of both the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India that NIA should evolve not only as a transportation hub but as a true aerotropolis,” he said.

The airport’s opening marks a key milestone in India’s aviation expansion, with authorities positioning it as a major driver of regional economic development.
