New Mangalore Port handle record urea in a day
Mangalore: The New Mangalore Port handled a record quantity of 8,507 tonnes of urea in a day on February 17, surpassing the earlier record of 5,713 tonnes of urea handled on October 21, 2005.
A press release by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here that this is the second record in cargo handling within a gap of three days.
On February 15, the port handled a record quantity of 28,391 tonnes of iron ore fines.
Quoting the NMPT Chairman, Mr P. Tamilvanan, the release said that the efficiency and performance of the port would help in attracting more cargo.
He appreciated the workers and the agencies involved in the record handling of urea cargo on February 17.
The release said there is growth in the handling of cargoes such as coal, timber, cement and containers during the current fiscal compared to the same period of the previous year.
