NHPC Starts 600 MW Commercial Power Supply from Parbati-II Project.

State-owned NHPC has commenced commercial electricity supply of 600 MW from three units of the Parbati-II hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh, effective April 1, 2025.

The Parbati-II project comprises four units of 200 MW each. According to a regulatory filing, the trial run and commercial operation date (COD) of Unit-4 (200 MW) will be announced at a later stage. Following the successful completion of trial runs, NHPC declared the COD of Unit-1, Unit-2, and Unit-3 from 00:00 hours on April 1, 2025.

The Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project is a run-of-the-river scheme designed to harness the hydro potential of the lower reaches of the Parbati River. As per NHPC’s official information, the river will be diverted using a concrete gravity dam at Village Pulga in Parbati Valley, channeling water through a 31.52 km-long Head Race Tunnel to a powerhouse located at Village Suind in Sainj Valley.

With this latest milestone, NHPC strengthens its renewable energy portfolio, contributing significantly to India's hydropower capacity and sustainable energy goals.
