NTPC Consortium Poised to Acquire Sinnar Thermal Power Ltd.

A consortium formed by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited and NTPC Limited has been declared the successful resolution applicant for Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (STPL), a company currently undergoing a Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP). The consortium received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from the Resolution Professional on June 14, 2025, following the approval of their Resolution Plan by the Committee of Creditors (COC).

STPL owns a significant coal-based thermal power plant with a capacity of 5x270 MW (totaling 1350 MW) located in Sinnar, Nashik, Maharashtra.

The implementation of this resolution plan remains contingent upon the consortium's acceptance of the associated terms and conditions outlined in the LOI. Furthermore, it requires the necessary approvals from the National Company Law Tribunal, Delhi, and any other relevant regulatory authorities, courts, or tribunals as per applicable laws. This move signifies a major step towards resolving the insolvency of STPL and bringing its substantial power generation capacity back into full operation.
