NTPC Eyes Two 1,400 MW Nuclear Power Units in Bihar’s Banka District.
State-owned NTPC is exploring the development of two nuclear power units of 700 MW each in Bihar’s Banka district as part of its broader energy diversification strategy, a move that could involve an investment of around ₹25,000 crore.
According to a government official, the company has initiated a feasibility study for the proposed project, which would be located about 250 km from Patna. The study is expected to assess technical, environmental, and logistical aspects before moving forward.
The Bihar government has expressed full support for the project, including assurances on water availability—an essential requirement for nuclear power generation. Preliminary estimates indicate that approximately 1,000 acres of land may be needed for the planned units.
If implemented, the project would mark a significant step in NTPC’s efforts to diversify beyond its traditional thermal power portfolio and expand its presence in the nuclear energy segment.
