NTPC plans nuclear units of 700–1,600 MW capacity, company identifying locations.

State-owned power producer NTPC Ltd is preparing to foray deeper into nuclear energy with plans to develop reactors of 700 MW, 1,000 MW and 1,600 MW across multiple locations in the country, a senior company official said.

The expansion is part of NTPC’s long-term strategy to secure a 30% share—about 30 GW—of India’s proposed 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047.

According to industry estimates, building a 1-GW nuclear plant requires an investment of ₹15,000–20,000 crore and typically takes at least three years from concept to commissioning.
