Overbridge Planned for Sangli Railway Station, Connecting to Platform 4

The Central Railway has given its approval for the long-awaited extension of the foot overbridge to platform number four at Sangli railway station. This decision comes in response to persistent demands from passengers, frequently highlighted by The Times of India (TOI).

The Sangli railway passengers' association and Sangli Jilha Nagrik Jagruti Manch attributed the approval to TOI's news coverage, which brought attention to the challenges faced by railway passengers due to the absence of a foot overbridge at platform 4.

Umesh Shah, a member of the Sangli railway passengers' association, emphasized the safety concerns posed by the lack of a foot overbridge at platform 4. The Central Railway issued a press release confirming that platform four was constructed at Sangli railway station as part of the Pune-Miraj doubling project. The extension work to connect the existing foot overbridge to platform 3 with platform 4 has been approved, and the construction is set to commence soon.

The press note also outlined temporary arrangements for passenger convenience during the extension work. Passenger trains heading in the Pune or Mumbai direction will be released from platforms one, two, or three. Similarly, trains going towards Miraj from Sangli will depart from platforms one and two.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Sangli railway station is undergoing several enhancements for passenger convenience. These include the construction of a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge, installation of two lifts and two escalators, construction of cover sheds on all platforms, improved lighting, notice boards, provision of better seating facilities for disabled and other passengers, and the development of the station facade and premises.

Satish Sakhalkar, head of Sangli Jilha Nagrik Jagruti Manch, expressed that if the bridge approval had not been granted, a protest was planned at Sangli railway station on January 24.
