Pak to generate 4,000 MW electricity by 2009-end

Islamabad: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) spokesman, Farhatullah Babar said 4,000 Mega Watt electricity will be generated by the end of next year, which will enhance the over all power generation in the country. He said the two power plants Chashma-III and Chashma-IV will be constructed within two and half years.

Earlier, Pakistan and China have made agreements for two power plants, of which Chashma-I is functioning and Chashma-II is almost complete. The signing of new accord for Chashma-III and Chashma-IV, he termed as significant development, as the country has been facing severe electricity problem. The capacity of Chashma-III and IV is about 700 MW, he said.

The first two plants had taken some two and half years for completion, but these new plants will take short time, he said.

Besides mitigating electricity problem within 14 months, the government has also planned to set up Rinkle power plants at offshore or within the country, he said.
