Parandur Airport Gets Special Project Status from TN Government.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has notified the proposed Parandur New Greenfield Airport as a ‘Special Project’ under the Tamil Nadu Land Consolidation (for Special Projects) Act, 2023, according to a Gazette notification published on March 2.
The declaration was made by the R. N. Ravi, enabling the state to accelerate land consolidation and approval processes required for the large-scale infrastructure project.
Under the Act, a Special Project refers to any development that requires at least 100 hectares of land and is formally notified by the state government. The designation allows authorities to streamline land acquisition, facilitate consolidation of land parcels, and fast-track regulatory clearances for major projects.
The proposed airport will be located at Parandur and is planned as the second airport for Chennai.
According to officials, the state has already acquired over 1,500 acres of land out of the 5,746 acres required for the project. Once completed, the new airport is expected to ease congestion at Chennai International Airport and support the region’s growing aviation demand.
