Pavana pipeline project in limbo

The municipal corporation's Pavana dam-Nigdi water pipeline project continues to remain stalled. In 2011, three farmers lost their lives after police fired on a mob that blocked the expressway in protest against the project.

District guardian minister Girish Bapat held a meeting in Mumbai with mayor Shakuntala Dharade, municipal commissioner Rajeev Jadhav, Maval MLA Sanjay alias Bala Bhegde, former Maval MLA Digambar Bhegde and Shankarrao Shelar, district president of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh.

Shankarrao Shelar, district president, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, said, 'We reiterate that the farmers of Maval are opposed to PCMC laying the water pipeline and drawing water from it. We are not saying the PCMC should not draw water from the dam, but we are against the idea of a closed pipeline.'
