Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant tour of Bihar and Odisha today, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a host of development infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores. These initiatives are strategically designed to bolster connectivity, improve public health, and stimulate economic growth across both states.
Bihar: Rail, Power, and Public Health Boost
The Prime Minister's itinerary begins in Siwan, Bihar, with a series of transformative projects. A major highlight will be the inauguration of the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line project, valued at over ₹400 crore, alongside the flagging off of a new train service on this route.
Further enhancing North Bihar's rail connectivity, PM Modi will also flag off the Vande Bharat Express between Patliputra and Gorakhpur, which will operate via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah.
In a significant boost for India's manufacturing and export capabilities, the PM will flag off locomotives built at the Marhowra Plant, destined for export to the Republic of Guinea. These high-power locomotives, featuring advanced AC propulsion, microprocessor-based control systems, ergonomic cab designs, and regenerative braking technology, mark a crucial milestone as the first export locomotives from this facility.
The government's commitment to the conservation of River Ganga will be evident with the inauguration of six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange project, totaling over ₹1800 crore, aimed at serving the region's population and improving water quality.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for water supply, sanitation, and STPs projects across various towns in Bihar, amounting to over ₹3000 crore, ensuring clean and safe drinking water for citizens.
Bihar's power infrastructure is also slated for a major upgrade with the foundation stone laying for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity. These standalone BESS units, ranging from 20 to 80 MWh, will be installed at 15 grid substations, including key locations like Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan, promising enhanced energy reliability.
Finally, the PM will release the first installment to over 53,600 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) in Bihar. He will also symbolically hand over keys to a few beneficiaries, marking the "Grih Pravesh" (housewarming) ceremony for more than 6,600 completed PMAY-U houses.
Odisha: Rail Connectivity, Green Mobility, and Cultural Preservation
The next stop for PM Modi will be Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹18,600 crore. These projects span critical sectors including drinking water, irrigation, agricultural infrastructure, health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, sections of national highways, and a new railway line.
A historic moment for Boudh district awaits as the Prime Minister will flag off new train services, extending rail connectivity to the district for the very first time.
In a strong push for clean energy and sustainable transport, PM Modi will flag off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system, fostering a modern and eco-friendly urban mobility network.
The Prime Minister is also slated to release the ‘Odisha Vision Document.’ This forward-looking document, anchored around the significant years of 2036 (marking Odisha's centenary as India’s first linguistic state) and 2047 (India's 100th year of independence), will outline an ambitious roadmap for inclusive growth across the state.
As a tribute to the contributions of eminent Odias, the PM will launch the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’ initiative. This scheme aims to transform their birthplaces into living memorials, featuring museums, interpretation centers, statues, libraries, and public spaces, thereby honoring Odisha’s rich heritage and promoting cultural tourism.
The visit will also include a felicitation ceremony for women achievers from across Odisha, celebrating over 16.50 lakh "Lakhpati Didis" who symbolize prosperity and self-reliance in the state.
