PM Modi Inaugurates New Railway Terminal at Cherlapalli, Hyderabad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the second entry and new railway terminal at Cherlapalli, near Hyderabad, recently, emphasizing the Centre's commitment to improving basic infrastructure for passenger safety, comfort, and enhanced connectivity.

In his speech, Modi highlighted the government's focus on providing high-priority infrastructure projects, especially in the railways. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao also spoke, stressing the importance of railway development for the state and urging the Centre to consider a direct Greenfield highway and railway line connecting Hyderabad to the Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh.

The development works at Cherlapalli Railway Station, which cost approximately ₹413 crore, aim to address the growing demand in the Hyderabad-Secunderabad region. The three major railway terminals—Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda—currently serve the region, and the addition of Cherlapalli as a new terminal will ease congestion and offer better services to the eastern parts of the city.

Cherlapalli's strategic location on the eastern side of Hyderabad, near the Outer Ring Road, makes it a key point for expansion. The station will have the capacity to handle an additional 15 pairs of trains, with four new high-level platforms and extensions to the existing five platforms to accommodate full-length trains. The terminal will also feature an additional 10 lines, bringing the total to 19 lines, further boosting the region's railway capacity.
