Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently emphasized the state's crucial role in contributing $1 trillion to the Centre’s vision of a $5 trillion economy, underscoring that the development of robust railway infrastructure was key to realizing this goal. Speaking during the virtual inauguration of the modernized Cherlapally terminal, he sought the central government's support for various railway projects in Telangana to accelerate growth.
The CM called for assistance in advancing the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro and stressed the need for timely execution of the Vikarabad-Krishna rail line via Kodangal. Highlighting the state’s land-locked status, he proposed the establishment of a dedicated rail line between Secunderabad and Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh, alongside the setting up of a dry port facility in Telangana.
Revanth Reddy also pointed to the importance of railway infrastructure in advancing India's progress and noted that states like Telangana rely heavily on it. He further appealed to the Centre for support in the development of a Regional Ring Rail in the state, aligned with Telangana’s plans for a 370 km Regional Ring Road (RRR). Additionally, he requested assistance for new railway connections, including the Kalwakurthy-Macherla stretch and a new pair of lines originating from Dornakal.
Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna highlighted that modern technology was playing a pivotal role in making Indian Railways safer and more efficient. He noted that the state had seen significant railway projects in recent years, including doubling and tripling of lines and electrification.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma commended the ongoing developments in the Indian Railways and South Central Railway (SCR), noting the rapid transformation in rail transport. He also praised the latest version of Kavach, an automatic train protection system, for enhancing safety. Furthermore, the Union Ministry's ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ aims to revamp 40 railway stations in Telangana.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy noted that the upgraded Cherlapally station would improve connectivity to city outskirts, benefiting both commuters and goods transportation. He also mentioned ongoing plans to extend MMTS connectivity to Yadadri and the establishment of a new station at the Komuravelli pilgrim center. Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar emphasized that the Prime Minister’s infrastructure development vision was focused on the railway, highway, and aviation sectors.
