PM Modi Launches IIM Guwahati Campus, National Data Centre in Assam.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated the temporary campus of IIM Guwahati and a state-of-the-art National Data Centre (NDC) for the northeastern region, marking a major boost for higher education and digital infrastructure in the area.
The establishment of IIM Guwahati, approved by the central government last year, is the second IIM in the Northeast and the 22nd in India. The first IIM in the region is in Shillong. The new campus is expected to strengthen management education and provide advanced academic opportunities in the region.
The NDC, set up at Amingaon in Kamrup district, Assam, from Lachit Ghat, is designed to host mission-critical applications for various government departments and also serve as a disaster recovery centre for other national data centres. The facility has a total sanctioned load of 8.5 MW and an average rack capacity of 10 kW per rack, underscoring its high-tech capabilities.
In addition to these launches, Modi flagged off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. Of these, 100 buses are allocated to Guwahati, 50 each to Nagpur and Bhavnagar, and 25 to Chandigarh, promoting sustainable urban mobility across multiple cities.
These initiatives reflect the government’s focus on strengthening educational infrastructure, digital governance, and green transportation in the Northeast and beyond.
