PM Modi to Unveil Surat Diamond Bourse and New Integrated Terminal at Surat Airport

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new integrated terminal building at Surat airport in Gujarat and the Surat Diamond Bourse. The expansive office complex, boasting more than 67 lakh square feet of floor area, is strategically located in Khajod village near Surat city.

According to an official statement, the Surat Diamond Bourse is poised to become the world's largest and most modern hub for international diamond and jewelry business. The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in global diamond trading, encompassing both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewelry.

The newly constructed integrated terminal at Surat airport is designed to efficiently handle passenger traffic, with a capacity to accommodate 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours. The terminal also has provisions for further expanding its peak-hour capacity to accommodate up to 3,000 passengers, contributing to an annual handling capacity of 55 lakh passengers.

As the primary gateway to Surat city, the terminal building has been thoughtfully designed to incorporate local culture and heritage, ensuring that both the interior and exterior reflect the essence of the region and create a distinct sense of place for visitors.

The statement further elaborated on the facilities within the Surat Diamond Bourse, highlighting a state-of-the-art 'Customs Clearance House' for import and export, a jewelry mall catering to retail jewelry business, and the inclusion of international banking services and secure vaults.

The inauguration of these significant projects is expected to mark a new chapter in Surat's prominence as a hub for trade and commerce, particularly in the lucrative diamond and jewelry sectors.
