PM to Launch ₹40,000-Crore Project Linking 11 Rivers in Rajasthan: CR Patil.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to dedicate a major project worth approximately ₹40,000 crore on December 17, aimed at linking 11 rivers in Rajasthan. The project, according to Union Jalshakti Minister C R Patil, is expected to make Rajasthan a water-surplus state.

Speaking at the inauguration of Suchi Semicon’s semiconductor plant, Patil highlighted the severe water crisis in Rajasthan and stressed the significance of the upcoming project. "This ₹40,000 crore initiative will link 11 rivers and ensure that Rajasthan has an abundant supply of water," Patil said. "After this, the state will have the maximum water."

Patil also urged corporates to focus on water harvesting efforts to address future water challenges. "While people have saved enough to secure their future for generations, there is an urgent need to conserve water for the generations to come," he added.

In January 2024, the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to prepare detailed project reports and planning for the Modified Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal (MPKC) link project, which will be integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). This ambitious initiative is expected to significantly improve the water situation in both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
