"PMC Initiates Construction of New Bridge Linking Koregaon Park & Kalyaninagar"
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated civil work on a new bridge spanning 10 meters across the Mula-Mutha river. Positioned parallel to the existing Aga Khan bridge, this new infrastructure endeavor aims to establish a direct connection between Kooregaon Park (North Main Road) and Kalyaninagar.
Anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion in the area, the decision to construct the new bridge stemmed from a comprehensive traffic survey conducted by PMC. The existing Aga Khan bridge, equipped with four lanes, will be supplemented by the new bridge, which is slated to feature at least two lanes.
An official from PMC's special project department confirmed that work on the bridge commenced recently and is projected to conclude within 18 to 24 months. "As of now, we foresee no obstacles in the progress of the project, as there is no requirement for additional land. PMC has previously executed similar projects, such as the construction of additional bridges parallel to the Dengle bridge and the old Aundh bridge, which significantly improved traffic flow," the official stated.
PMC plans to further alleviate traffic congestion by widening a stretch of North Main Road near the existing bridge and Bhairoba Nala pumping station. Commuters often encounter bottlenecks along this stretch, particularly during peak hours, due to the narrow carriageway.
The commencement of construction on the new bridge represents a proactive step by PMC to enhance connectivity and address traffic challenges in key areas of Pune.
